The Bermuda Rugby Football Union’s Mini Rugby program has continued their annual kid-to-kid giving campaign this holiday season. This holiday season saw Mini Rugby participants donate lightly used books to the Reading Clinic. Of the holiday book drive, BRFU Youth Development Officer Patrick Calow commented, “We’re really pleased to have been able to collect so many books for The Reading Clinic. It’s fantastic to be able to teach kids how to give back to the local community at such a young age.” BRFU Communications Officer Lauren Rothwell added, “Literacy is a vital skill. To be able to get children excited about reading and excited about sharing their favourite books with others is really fantastic. The Reading Clinic is a great asset to children who struggle with reading and mathematics and to be able to offer them a wide variety of books to engage children of all ages with different interests is something that we are really proud of.”Executive Director of The Reading Clinic, Dr. Glenn Faries commented, ”This is a fantastic way to demonstrate to our younger generation the importance of the philanthropic spirit that is so much a part of the fabric of our society. That spirit is so important for all of Bermuda’s charities to continue to flourish and be enabled to do the work they do. Initiatives such as this can teach our kids that philanthropy can wear many faces – it can be the gift of funds, the gift of time or the gift of much needed items that charities can share with, and give to, the people they serve.
