Watching AC35 is opportunity of a lifetime

Dear Sir,

My wife and I attended the opening of the America’s Cup on May 27 and I have to say it was one of the best experiences we have ever had.

The organisation was spot on. I got goose bumps just approaching the America’s Cup Village. I felt as if I was going to the Olympics.

The America’s Cup organising committee, Bermuda Tourism Authority, Bermuda Government and all of the Bermudians and others deserve a huge thank you for putting together such a wonderful event. Bermuda is so lucky to have been chosen for this prestigious sailing race.

Bermuda is such a special place and the America’s Cup has showcased and shown all Bermudians and the world how proud they should be to live in this gem of an island.

Every Bermudian and resident should take the opportunity to go, even if sailing is not your thing. The atmosphere of the Village was electric, together with the things to do, and the experience of just being there should not be missed.

I have heard remarks that it is just for the rich. But at just $10 admission, it makes it affordable for everyone. I so hope that all the schools have the opportunity to go.

There is an area called the Kids Zone and, judging by all the many children that were there that day, they were having a blast. I believe that Bermuda will get the Kids Zone as a legacy gift for all of Bermuda’s children. How great is that?

The Opening Ceremony was fantastic. It opened with a Gombey rising out of the top of the staging with a conch shell in hand, blowing this mystical sound. It was just magical and set the stage for the rest of the evening. The local talent was outstanding; Gene Steede was amazing.

In closing, I urge everyone to go. This is an opportunity of a lifetime.

Proud to be a Bermudian.
