St Regis beach access to be debated

Fears over future public access to the beach next to the St Regis Resort, which is under construction in St George’s, could be settled after the House of Assembly sits today.

MPs will debate the St George’s Resort Act 2018, which will include a guarantee of free access to the beach at Fort St Catherine.

Legislators have sparred since 2015 over the popular East End beach.

Earlier legislation stipulated “reasonable” public access, which raised questions over which areas might be off limits.

Amendments to the Motor Car Act allowing for quad bike tours on the Railway Trail will also come up for debate.

MPs will, in addition, consider updates to legislation for payroll tax, insurance and electricity.

Diallo Rabain, the education minister, will make a statement on parental involvement committees at the island’s schools.

Walton Brown, the Minister of Home Affairs, will address the House on updates to the policy on entertainers designed to ensure island acts get employed alongside foreign acts.
