Advanced polls for a special election in St George’s will take place on Thursday, while the full election will be held next week.

All registered municipal residents are able to vote in the election, which is needed to fill the vacant town councillor seat left by the death of Phillip “Phoopa” Anderson.

The two candidates for the post are Cyniqua Anderson and Mark Soares.

The Parliamentary Registrar said the advanced poll, for those who cannot attend the polls on the February 5 polling day due to travel or incapacity, will take place at the Penno’s Wharf Cruise Ship Terminal between 8am and 8pm.

All voters who intend to vote in advance must first apply for a certificate.

A statement from the Registrar said: “To apply for a Certificate of Intended Absence, travellers are required to present their travel documents and photo identification to the Parliamentary Registrar.

“To apply for a Certificate of Incapacity, Incapacitated Voters are required to present to the Registrar a letter from a registered physician stating their incapacity together with photo identification.”

The Parliamentary Registry is located on the third floor of Craig Appin House, 8 Wesley Street, Hamilton.

The office will be open for Advanced Polling certificates daily from 8.30am to 5pm. On Thursday, the office will remain open until 8pm.
