Team Bermuda to join in mile run

Best foot forward: Team Bermuda will be taking the streets tomorrow night

The running of the Bulls will take place on the streets of Hamilton tomorrow evening — well, sort of.

Members of Bermuda’s Red Bull Youth America’s Cup are to compete in this year’s KPMG Front Street Mile.

All but one team member will participate in the adult category of the popular annual event, which kicks off Bermuda Marathon Weekend.

Owen Siese will not compete as he is recovering from an injury.

“Owen has a slight injury so they don’t want him to exasperate it,” a team spokesperson said. “So ten of the 11 sailors are running.

“The reason they are running is that KPMG is one of Team BDA’s lead sponsors and obviously it’s their event, the Front Street Mile, so they invited the team down to run.”

Bermuda is not the only Red Bull Youth America’s Cup team involved, as members from SoftBank Team Japan have also registered for the event.

The KPMG Front Street Mile series of races start at 7pm when competitors in the Bermuda Triangle Challenge will compete in six waves, covering the mile route.

This will be followed by races for primary, middle and senior school runners, and then the local adult men and women’s races.

The evening climaxes with the men’s and women’s elite mile races, featuring guest runners from overseas.

Team Bermuda stepped up their preparations for the Red Bull Youth America’s Cup after embarking on a full-time training schedule this week to prepare for the event in June.

Since the squad was announced in September, the team have participated in a series of intensive training camps to get ready to race in the foiling AC45F catamaran against some of the top youth sailors in the world.

As Bermuda’s entry into the Youth America’s Cup, they will compete against up to 15 youth teams.
