Richardson claims honours in Ecuador

Still got it: Kent Richardson

Kent Richardson won his age group in the Puerto Lopez Triathlon while racing for team Eq3 in Ecuador last weekend.

Competing in the 55-60 age group, Richardson competed over the sprint distance, a 750 metres one-lap swim, two-lap bike and 5K, two-lap run, winning the men’s division in 1hr 06min 55sec, which placed him fourth overall.

Only three 20 to 24-year-olds finished ahead of Richardson who arrived in Cuenca, Ecuador, a week before the race for some altitude training.

The event doubled up as the Ecuador National Sprint and Olympic distances Triathlon Championships.

n Flora Duffy is featured on the cover of the March/April issue of Triathlon Plus magazine, as part of a multi-page feature where she talks about her career as a top triathlete.

In December, Duffy was voted as triathlete of the year by TriathlonWorld.com after an outstanding season, which included three world championship titles, the ITU World Triathlon Series, the Xterra World Championship and the ITU Cross Triathlon World Championships.

The WTS confirmed yesterday that Duffy will be racing in Abu Dhabi on March 3.

The 29-year-old, who finished eighth at last summer’s Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, placed fourth in last year’s race.
