Flora Duffy goes into today’s latest race in the ITU World Triathlon Series in Edmonton, Canada as the favourite to land a fourth straight victory.

Three of the top four women in the series will be competing and will not only be aiming for podium places but also important series points as the top four are separated by just 107 points, according to triathlon.org

Duffy has been outstanding since she started her season off with victory in Yokohama, which was followed up by another win in Leeds and then another first place in the sprint distance in Hamburg.

Her three wins have lifted her into leadership contention and she will be the one to beat in another sprint challenge today.

After Hamburg, Katie Zaferes, of the United States moved into first place in the overall series.

She has had a consistent season so far and has one podium finish, a silver medal in Yokohama. However, a first place still eludes Zaferes, though she enjoys the sprint distance and could be a strong contender for top spot.

Another American, Kirsten Kasper, has remained a threat the whole season, earning her first podium finish in Yokohama and combined with her other top finishes was able to hold on to the top spot in the series going into the Hamburg event. She remains a strong contender for the world title.

While Zaferes and Kasper have been the main contenders, two other American women are also a threat. Taylor Spivey achieved her first WTS podium placing in Leeds and Summer Cook earned her first WTS victory in Edmonton last year, so returns as the reigning champion.

A strong hopeful for the local Canadian crowd is Joanna Brown. She got on the Cagliari World Cup podium earlier this year and is anxious to break through on the WTS stage.

The women’s event will under way at 2.06pm Bermuda time while the men will follow two hours later.
