Tyler Smith finished eighteenth in the elite men’s race at the Puerto Lopez Camtri Sprint American Cup in Ecuador on Sunday.

Smith found himself in a lead pack of 30-plus competitors off the bike and put in a solid performance out of 67 triathletes.

The 20-year-old had splits of 9:10, 27:37, 15:15 for an overall time of 54:06. Valentin Wernz, of Germany, won the race in an overall time of 53:10. Alexis Lepage, of Canada, came second in 53:12 and Austin Hindman placed third in 53:13.
