Good reputation: Boyles is handed a Village jersey by president Dill

North Village Rams have appointed Devarr Boyles as a replacement for head coach Richard Todd who stood down last month from the position after one season.

The appointment became a priority for Shervin Dill who returned last month as president of the club after the resignation of Stephen Coddington after three years.

Boyles, a former Dandy Town coach, agreed to a two-year contract with Village. Irving Romaine will return as assistant coach.

“I look forward to the challenge of working with all connected to the club and trying to improve both the team and club during my contracted period,” said Boyles, who also coached Devonshire Cougars, leading them to the league title in 2009.

Boyles is also a former Bermuda Football Association director of player development and served as interim coach of the national team in the 2011 World Cup qualifiers.

“The selection committee was very impressed with the coaching experience and credentials of coach Boyles as well as his honesty, demeanour and passion for the holistic development of football in Bermuda,” Dill said.

“The committee was unanimous in their deliberation. He is a great fit for North Village Community Club and we look forward to all of the positive attributes such as discipline, hard work and commitment that coach Boyles brings, to emanate on and off the field of play.”

Added Dill: “He was the first choice and the direction was that we pursue him as our first choice. That was my first task, that was the priority. He came very highly recommended, the players and management of the team were looking towards him and that’s when I stepped in and made the initial contact.

“Within a very short time we were able to confirm an agreement for him to become head coach.”

Dill said the goal for the club this season was to improve on last season’s fourth-place finish which qualified them for the Dudley Eve Trophy after missing out the previous season.

There will also be a high emphasis on youth development, a area where Boyles has plenty of experience.

“With the recent resignation of former coach Richard Todd due to extended family and work commitments, the club and players remain strong and dedicated and are looking forward to the upcoming season,” said Dill, who was replaced by Coddington as president in 2013.

“On behalf of the North Village Community Club board of directors, members, fans and family, we welcome coach Devarr Boyles into the home of North Village. We look forward to rewarding experiences between the coach, players and technical staff.

“He comes with quite a bit of expertise at both levels, youth and senior, having once been the senior national coach. He’s very passionate about improving the performances of the team and getting positive results. The board and members are very excited and welcome Devarr to the club and look forward to some success.”

“Our youth development has helped make us what we are today and with that depth in our programme it should help to sustain us.”

Boyles turned down an offer from BFA to continue working for them on a part-time basis in 2012.

He quit his role after being told by the cash-strapped Association that they could no longer afford his wages.

He won several honours with Dandy Town, the Premier Division title, the Martonmere Cup, FA Cup, Dudley Eve, Friendship Trophy and Charity Cup.
