Ten-man Bermuda dig deep for win

The Bermuda Under-17 side made a winning start to their Caribbean Championships with a 2-1 win over St Lucia yesterday.

Bermuda went a goal down and had Razhir Jones dismissed but secured the victory through goals from Kane Critchlow and Ty Williams.

They take on St Vincent and the Grenadines, the group three host side, at 7.30pm tomorrow.

In their final match they face Grenada at 5pm on Sunday. All matches are being played at the Victoria Park Stadium in Kingstown. The competition is the first phase of qualifying for the next Under-17 World Cup to be held in India next year.

The six group winners and the best runners-up will advance to the CFU final round to be held from September 16 to 25 in Trinidad and Tobago.

n The Bermuda Triangle FC under-9 side, coached by Marvin Belboda and Colin Smith, won the gold division at the Disney Cup football tournament in Florida. They beat Florida Rush 5-4 in the final last weekend, scoring two goals in the final minute.

The team, from BAA, was entered into the tournament by Bermuda Sports Management Group, headed by Cal Blankendal.

In the first match Bermuda Triangle defeated Costa Del Este 1 of Panama 11-7 before beating WPA 06 Thunder of Florida 4-3 in their next match.
