Foursome Simmons points Town in right direction

Doing the damage: Simmons scored four goals against Onions

Flanagan’s Onions 1 Dandy Town 5

Angelo Simmons notched a second-half hat-trick to guide Dandy Town to their first league victory of the season away to Flanagan’s Onions on Saturday night.

The Town captain led by example, banging in four goals of the highest quality inside 38 minutes to put the game beyond Flanagan’s reach.

Kor-Von Tucker accounted for Town’s remaining goal while Keston Lewis replied for the home side.

A minute’s silence was observed by both teams before kick off in honour of the victims of last week’s plane crash in Medellin, Colombia, that all but wiped out Brazilian side Chapecoense.

Town seized early control but could not break down a stubborn Flanagan’s defence that rode their luck at times during the opening stanza.

Damon Ming, the Town midfielder, curled in a free kick that went untouched across the goalmouth while Amar Lewis’s shot from 20 yards fizzed past the far post after some good work on the left flank by Tucker.

Tomiko Goater, the Town forward, also went close when he rolled his effort wide of the far post after breaking away and then lobbed over after receiving a pass from Kwame Steede.

Simmons gave an ominous sign of things to come when he brought off two reflex saves from Stephen Gould, the Flanagan’s goalkeeper, who had a busy night between the uprights.

The home side’s chances were few and far between but they nearly went ahead against the run of play when Lewis had two efforts from point-blank range blocked on the line before team-mate Miles Brewer blasted the third rebound into orbit.

Lewis, who fought through the pain barrier after pulling a hamstring around the eighteenth minute before finally being substituted midway in the second half, had another effort inside of the box deflected off the body of Kyle Wade, the Town defender.

Flanagan’s were fortunate to get to the break unscathed.

However, their luck finally ran out when Simmons finished off a good move down the left side by smashing his well-struck effort into the roof of the net to put Town in front.

Town’s joy, though, was short-lived as Lewis turned in Smith’s cross from the right two minutes later to add parity to the scoreline.

The visiting side continued to dominate possession and it seemed as though it was only a matter of time before the floodgates opened.

Town regained the lead when Tucker drilled a low shot into the bottom left corner after being picked out by Steede’s pass just inside of the box.

The game as a contest was effectively over when Simmons turned in Ming’s pull back for his second goal.

Simmons then completed his hat-trick after being played through by substitute Drewonde Bascome and thumping the ball past Gould.

He completed the scoring when he converted his fourth goal from the penalty spot after Tucker was floored in the box by Michael Lindsey-Bailey, the Flanagan’s midfielder.
