Santa’s wish-list: a joke book for Jose and pay rise for Pulis

Mourinho is desperately in need of some festive cheer

With the season approaching the crucial festive period, it is likely a few managers are drawing up their wish list for Santa.

The Royal Gazette can only speculate, of course, but we have some suggestions.

Jose Mourinho: a joke book, Dave Chappelle special or a night out with Wayne Rooney. Anything to give the guy a laugh, basically. Cheer up, Jose, it ain’t that bad!

Alan Pardew: an internal speech filter to stop his routinely stupid post-match interviews. Criticising club owners after ending a long, long run of defeats is not clever. although Pardew haters may hope it hastens his departure.

Tony Pulis: a pay rise, a fundraising initiative, or even just a spare dollar. He does, after all, have a huge bill to pay.

Sergio Aguero: a meditation kit. David Luiz is annoying, we know, but sometimes you just have to close your eyes and count to ten.

Jurgen Klopp and Antonio Conte: some blood pressure pills. Their technical area Pro-Zone stats must be astonishing.

Claudio Ranieri: a time machine, so he can go back to last season when we were all laughing at his pizza jokes and his team were riding high.

11am kick offs unless stated

Tomorrow

Watford v Everton

8.30am

While Everton have a great record against Watford in recent times (unbeaten in their past seven meetings), they have lost their past three away games and will be without Yannick Bolasie, who has suffered a long-term knee injury. For Watford, Troy Deeney will be looking to end his goal drought and help get his team back to winning ways after two straight defeats. Prediction: 2-1

Arsenal v Stoke City

Alexis Sanchez is on fire and has scored the most goals from open play in the Premier League this season. Arsenal appear to have had their centre-forward solution in their squad all along. Who knew? Not Arsene Wenger, although maybe it was part of his long-term plan. Either way, the Gunners, with Shkodran Mustafi excellent at the back, are looking good.

Stoke have put their terrible start to the season behind them but this should be a home win. Prediction: 3-0

Burnley v Bournemouth

Bournemouth are high on life right now after their late take down of Liverpool. Their strength from the bench was notable and shows how much good work Eddie Howe has done.

He takes on another highly rated English manager this weekend in Sean Dyche and his Burnley side are impressive at home. Prediction: 1-1

Hull City v Crystal Palace

Palace stopped the rot at home to Southampton but with a tough run of fixtures ahead, another victory is vital.

Hull have lost eight of their past ten in the league but the pressure is still on Palace so a draw is well within the home side’s reach. Prediction: 2-2

Swansea City v Sunderland

Crunch relegation game already, with two sides scrapping it out with various degrees of success.

Sunderland appear to be getting their act together and a few pundits must be close to offering David Moyes an apology. Three wins in four point to an improving team, while Swansea are shipping goals for fun and Bob Bradley is already feeling the heat. Prediction: 1-2

Leicester City v Manchester City

1.30pm

City may have lost to Chelsea in a cracker last weekend but they were, at times, outstanding. Given Leicester’s woes in the league this season, this appears a no-brainer. Prediction: 0-3

Sunday

Chelsea v West Bromwich Albion

8am

West Brom have really upped their game this season, having built on a solid backline to add a flourish farther up the pitch. They should provide Chelsea with a genuine challenge at Stamford Bridge but once Costa et al break the deadlock, the home side are odds on to make it nine wins on the trot. Prediction: 3-1

Manchester United v Tottenham Hotspur

10.15am

United are nine points off fourth place already, which must be a concern for Mourinho. Three straight league draws have not helped their cause.

The visit of Spurs will test Old Trafford’s resolve further. Should be fascinating encounter that could go either way. My money’s on an honourable draw.Prediction: 1-1

Southampton v Middlesbrough

10.15am

The Teessiders may have seen off Hull to rack up three valuable points but expect Saints to respond to recent defeats in the comfort of their own surroundings.

It is a long trip to St Mary’s — especially to return empty-handed. Prediction: 2-1

Liverpool v West Ham United

12.30pm

The Slaven Bilic effect is in danger of grinding to a halt as he experiences a sophomore slump.

Liverpool will hope the impressive Joel Matip returns to the centre of their defence as they look to shake off the capitulation against Bournemouth. Prediction: 3-1
