Bean Rosario hits four for West

Katherine Bean Rosario of West End Primary netted four times as the West retained their Primary Girls title with a 7-1 victory over the East yesterday at the National Sports Centre North Field.

In a match of three 20-minute thirds, Bean Rosario gave the West a 2-0 lead going into the first break after netting in the fifth and 11th minutes. With Bean Rosario substituted for the second third, the East managed to pull it back to 2-1 with an early goal from Thea Teglegaard.

Ramiah Brangman, last week’s primary school KPMG Front Street Mile winner, helped restored the two-goal lead when she set up Samara Dill from a corner. Dill returned the compliment six minutes later with a cross for Brangman to dribble into the box and score to make it 4-1.

Bean Rosario, back for the final third, completed her hat-trick five minutes after the restart before Brangman netted her second of the match with a low shot into the far post. Bean Rosario, who was named Most Valuable Player for the West, closed out the scoring with her fourth goal. Goalkeeper Caitlyn Coleman was voted MVP for the East.

The West also took the Middle School girls title with an 8-3 victory over the East, Za’Kayza Parsons of TN Tatem leading the way with three goals to take the MVP award for the winners.

Adia Gibbons of TN Tatem opened the opened the scoring while Emily Hartwig of Saltus netted twice and Selah Tuzo and Danni Watson, of Saltus and Tatem respectively, grabbed one each. For the East, Katelyn Madeiros of Bermuda High, Christianna Warren of MSA and Taja Williams of Bermuda High all got on the scoresheet. Madeiros was voted MVP.

n College coaches from the United States have flown in to watch today’s senior matches in the hopes of finding talented local players to bolster their programmes.

Chris Parsons from NCAA Division III school, Thomas College, is no stranger to Bermuda and Bermuda players with his current squad containing eight local players.

Jason O’Keefe, the head coach of Division I Appalachian State in North Carolina, is the other American university coach attending.

Owen Finberg, from South Kent School in Connecticut, and Rusty Scarborough and Joe Walejko, from IMG Academy in Florida, will also be in attendance.

Today’s matches start at 4pm with the Middle School boys match, before the senior girls battle at 5.45 and the senior boys at 7.30. All the matches will be played at the National Sports Centre North Field.
