Wells: I’m staying at Huddersfield

Wells says he is not moving in this transfer window

Nahki Wells has guaranteed that he will remain with Huddersfield Town for the rest of the season.

The Bermuda striker has been linked with a potential move away from the Yorkshire club during this month’s transfer window.

However, the Bermuda international said that he has no interest in leaving the club during the present transfer period.

“I can guarantee I will be here till the end of season, that’s for sure,” Wells said. “I am not tempted or swayed by any speculation.

“I know in football things change quickly. But for right now I am focused on this season and a hundred per cent Town player till the end of the season.”

Wells, who has notched seven goals this term, insists that his sole focus is on Huddersfield’s bid for promotion to the Premier League.

Huddersfield are fifth in the Sky Bet Championship, level on points with fourth placed Reading, and among a trio of Yorkshire clubs thick in the hunt for promotion to English football’s top tier.

“I still have my targets individually and as a club,” Wells said. “But most importantly it’s collectively and it’s the goal. The goal to try and finish in that promotion place — and I would like to think that we have what it takes to get through.”

The former Dandy Town player is said to be an £8 million target for fellow Championship sides Norwich City and Fulham.

Speculation that he could be on his way out of the John Smith’s Stadium heightened after David Wagner, the head coach, revealed that the 26-year-old had turned down a new contract offer in the summer.

“Speculation is part of the game, especially at this time of the year,” Wells said. “But my focus is on this club and helping us achieve success.

“That’s football; the better you do the better it is for the club, the more interest there is elsewhere. That’s just standard.”

Huddersfield are at home to Ipswich Town today in the Championship.
