Pitcher follows in footsteps of Wells

Off to Leeds: Tyler Pitcher

Tyler Pitcher is the latest young Bermudian to follow in the footsteps of Nahki Wells by being selected to enrol at the Richmond International Association of Soccer and Academics in Leeds, England.

Wells, the Huddersfield Town and Bermuda striker, attended RIASA before beginning his career in England that began with Carlisle United and moved on to a highly successful spell with Bradford City before joining Huddersfield.

Pitcher will join three other Bermudians to fill one of 16 places on the RIASA roster in the upcoming 2017-2018 academic year.

The 18-year-old is a senior at Berrien Springs High School in Michigan and even though he missed four games owing to injury this past season, it did not stop him from leading the team with 16 goals and five assists, earning him a place on the BCS 2016 All-Conference team.

Pitcher had been contacted by several notable Division I, II, III programmes across the United States to come to their combines with RIASA reaching out with an invite-only combine in Florida or Arizona. During these two RIASA sessions held in the US only 25 players were reviewed at each combine.

Shortly after attending the Florida session, Tyler received a letter of recommendation from coach Brian Haley for the Under-21 team and shortly thereafter received a letter of acceptance to attend the university in West Yorkshire.
