Quinn Outerbridge Jr is taking his budding football talents to the college level in the United States.

The 17-year-old North Village player has committed to NCAA Division III Mitchell College and will enrol at the New London, Connecticut-based university this autumn.

“I feel amazing ... I never thought this day would come,” said Outerbridge, whose father Quinn Outerbridge Sr is a former Hamilton Parish footballer. “I’m excited to contribute to the team. I want to thank my family and Mackey and ... just Forman.”

Outerbridge thrived during his senior year at Forman School, in Litchfield, Connecticut and was chosen as his school’s most valuable player.

Scotty McCarty, the school’s athletic director and head soccer coach, spoke highly of the promising Bermudian.

“I’m very excited for Quinn,” McCarty said. “He has made such a big difference in the last four years for our team.

“I truly appreciate that he now has the opportunity to first be academically supported and also play under a great coach. They are getting a great player.”

Forman compiled an impressive 12-3 record last season and reached as far as the semi-finals in the Housatonic Valley Athletic League Playoffs, where they lost 6-5 away to St Andrew’s School in a penalty shoot-out.

Outerbridge started his career at Hamilton Parish before moving to North Village.

He made a rare appearance for Village’s Premier Division team last season during a brief break from his studies abroad.

“Quinn has lots of potential,” Randy Spence, the North Village assistant coach, said. “He has a good build for a central defender and is very strong and fast. He also has good dribbling skills and discipline.

“Quinn is not afraid to play. He plays with lots confidence and actually played a Premier game this season for us.”

Outerbridge, who played as a forward at Forman, represented Bermuda at the Concacaf Under-15 Championships in the Cayman Islands in 2013.
