Wells and Co face Udinese

Wells celebrates Huddersfield’s promotion to the Premier League

Serie A side Udinese will provide a stern test for Nahki Wells and his Huddersfield Town team-mates when the two clubs meet in a preseason friendly.

The match will take place at John Smith’s Stadium on July 26 and will be Hudderfield’s only home friendly before their first season in the Premier League kicks off next month.

Town were promoted to English football’s top tier after they beat Reading 4-3 in a penalty shoot-out in the Sky Bet Championship play-off final at Wembley Stadium in May.

Udinese, coach by Luigi Delneri, finished 13th in the Serie A table with 45 points from 38 games, the club’s highest finish since finishing fifth in 2012-13.

Udinese’s squad boasts a number of players with international experience including Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu, the Ghanaian international, who has over 80 caps for his country.

Wells and his Terriers team-mates made a positive start to their preseason campaign with a 1-0 victory away to Sky Bet League Two side Accrington Stanley on Wednesday.

Tom Ince, one of nine new signings Huddersfield have made this summer, scored the winner in the 56th minute.

Wells had his share of chances in front of the uprights but was unable to capitalise.

Town are back in action tomorrow away to Bury, of Sky Bet League One, before travelling to Germany to meet second-tier side Sandhausen on Tuesday.

Hudderfield will then face Barnsley, of the Sky Bet Championship, next Saturday before travelling to Austria for a weeklong training camp which includes two friendlies inside of four-days against VfB Stuttgart and Torino on August 1 and August 4.

Wells and his team-mates are away to Crystal Palace in their Premier League opener on August 12. The Terriers will meet Newcastle United, who are also marking their return to the top flight, in their home league opener eight days later.
