Lambe strikes in Carlisle win

On target: Reggie Lambe

Reggie Lambe scored his first goal of the season in Carlisle United’s 2-1 win away to Cambridge United in the Sky Bet League Two at the weekend.

The 26-year-old gave Carlisle the lead in the first half before Medy Elito equalised for Cambridge from the penalty spot.

Defender Tom Parkes, a summer signing from Leyton Orient, struck late in the first half and Carlisle held on for their first win against the home side in 20 years.

Bermuda winger Lambe scored in the seventh minute when the ball was laid into his path after good work from forward Hallam Hope.

The home side levelled on 13 minutes when goalkeeper Jack Bonham spilt a cross and defender Gary Liddle then fouled winger Elito.

Carlisle then went close as Parkes’s volley struck Ritchie Bennett and was heading for the bottom corner until goalkeeper David Forde readjusted to tip it wide. From the resulting corner, though, Parkes did find the net after Tom Miller had climbed to meet Nicky Adams’s inswinger in the 39th minute.

The triumph came despite manager Keith Curle leaving key trio Mike Jones, Jamie Devitt and Shaun Miller on the bench. “I make decisions that I think are for the betterment of the team on a game by game basis,” Curle told the News & Star.
