Robin Hood bolster squad with key signings

Burchall has signed for Hood from PHC

Robin Hood, the Premier Division champions, have boosted their ranks ahead of the new season with some key signings.

Boulevard and Somerset Trojans, however, have both lost six players in the Bermuda Football Association’s first release period in which 66 players obtained releases.

Hood, who won a first league title last season, have picked up defender William White from the Trojans and midfielder Mayhye Burchall from PHC Zebras while Lozendro Symonds’s switch from relegated Devonshire Colts is pending.

Hood have already added Bermuda defenders Jaylon Bather and Danté Leverock to their squad. The club also have a new coach, with John Barry Nusum replacing Kyle Lightbourne who stood down at the end of last season.

Four players have left the champions, with Marcelos Thomas joining North Village while Donte Brangman and Shannon Burchall moving to First Division side Southampton Rangers where Jomar Wilkinson is the new head coach.

Rangers have been one of the busiest clubs during the transfer period, picking up Village trio Ryan Brown, Nacori Smith and Rai Sampson, as well as five players from Paget Lions.

Defender Maquel Tankard is returning after a stint with Boulevard, along with Quadir Maynard who helped guide Young Men’s Social Club to promotion last season. Another player returning to Rangers is Alake Bean from Somerset Eagles who were relegated last season along with Colts.

Eagles have also lost Richard Quinn and Trae Harvey to Trojans while Khimo Harrison joins Bean at Southampton Oval.

Joining Eagles is D’Andre Wainwright from Colts who lost five players in the transfer period, with Jamal Woodley joining St David’s, and Ryan Tyrrell moving to Boulevard. Kijuan Wilkinson has moved to X-Roads ahead of their first season in the top flight.

Ian Coke is the biggest surprise of all the transfers, with the BFA confirming his switch from Boulevard to Dandy Town after The Royal Gazette revealed last month that last season’s MVP was heading to St John’s Road.

Trojans have also picked up Jade Morrissey from PHC while experienced striker Jonathan Bean is heading back to Ireland Rangers along with Daunte Woods. Tahj Wade is moving to Paget while Wayne Hill Jr is joining Rangers.

Village have lost Philip Parsons to X-Roads while BAA trio Jordan Dill, Akim Johnston (pending) and Jordan Thomas (pending) are making the short move from BAA to North Village.

This year’s transfer period is quiet compared to the previous two pre-seasons when 104 players transferred in 2015 and 93 in 2016. The late release period is from November 15 to 30.
