Lambe hits back of net again

Flying high: Lambe scored Carlisle’s second with a header

Reggie Lambe scored for the second game in a row as Carlisle United beat Cheltenham Town 3-0 at Brunton Park in Sky Bet League Two on Saturday.

The Cumbrians moved up to fifth in League Two and kept their first clean sheet of the season with Bermudian Lambe heading in their second goal.

Carlisle took the lead as early as the fifth minute when Tom Miller’s header was diverted into his own net by Cheltenham midfielder Harry Pell.

Lambe tested Cheltenham goalkeeper Jonathan Flatt soon afterwards with a vicious shot that went through a host of bodies and was parried behind for a corner.

The 26-year-old made no mistake on 18 minutes, when he got on the end of Danny Grainger’s cross with a glancing header to end a patient Carlisle move.

Lambe had another chance not long afterwards, but Cheltenham midfielder Kyle Storer blocked his goalbound effort.

Miller completed the scoring with a great shot that found its way into the top corner.

“We got the goals when we put them under pressure which is pleasing,” Carlisle manager Keith Curle told the club’s official website. “I thought we could have scored the third goal in the first half when they made a couple of great blocks.

“We started the game well and we looked dangerous from set pieces and in open play. We had different options with a physical presence and good movement. We were causing them problems in attacking areas and I like that.”

Lambe also scored last Saturday in Carlisle’s 2-1 win away to Cambridge United.
