Robin Hood and PHC Zebras will battle for the season’s first trophy when they meet in the Charity Cup at Goose Gosling Field tomorrow at 5pm.

Hood, who lost to Town in last year’s Charity Cup after winning their first FA Cup, are entering the new season with the target on their backs after winning the league for the first time. They have a new coach in John Barry Nusum, after Kyle Lightbourne resigned following their title-winning campaign.

Hood also have some new players to boost their ranks with young midfielder Mazhye Burchall joining from PHC, William White, from Somerset, and Lozendro Symonds, from relegated Devonshire Colts — a move that is being appealed by Colts.

Four others have departed, including regular first-team players Marcelos Thomas to North Village and Donte Brangman and Shannon Burchall to Southampton Rangers.

PHC also lost goalkeeper Troy Hall to Dandy Town and Jade Morrissey to Somerset, where he is already a talented cricketer for the West End club. Tariq Sabir goes in the opposite direction while Dunte Albuoy joins from St David’s to give them some extra firepower up front.

There have been only two different winners of the Charity Cup in the last five years with Dandy Town winning four times, including the last three matches while Devonshire Cougars were the 2014 winners when they beat Somerset 6-3 in 2013, the highest-scoring match since PHC thrashed North Village 7-1 in 2009, the last time they won the prize.

Football fans will have two more matches to watch on Monday at the same venue when Devonshire Cougars begin the defence of the Dudley Eve Trophy against Boulevard Blazers in a group B match starting at 3pm. Cougars beat PHC in the final. The two teams are in the same group and will meet next Sunday at Bernard Park.

Group A will comprise Hood, Village and Somerset, with the Rams and Trojans meeting on Sunday in the second match at 5pm.
