Andrew Bascome is now the technical director of Boulevard Communty Club.

Shane Powell, the club’s president, has confirmed that the former Boulevard Blazers player and coach is serving in the key role, where he has already placed special emphasis on youth development.

“Andrew Bascome is our technical director now and he overseas the whole programme,” Powell said. “He started our youth academy at Victor Scott School and we are trying to start from the bottom to actually make it better for the youth.

“The field at Victor Scott, which has been designated for our youth this season, has been redone through Andrew and his people, which has uplifted our community.

“We have tied in with a good person in Andrew and his foundation and he is basically back on like how he was before and it’s all from the heart. He doesn’t have to do this or spend his money, but he has come in and helped not just Boulevard, but Victor Scott and the whole community.”

Bascome is one of two new additions to Boulevard’s technical staff as Karl Roberts, the former Somerset Trojans defender, is now the club’s senior football coach.

Boulevard’s senior team also have a new home venue this season at Lord’s in St David’s, having played their home matches up until the end of last season at Police Field.

“We have played our home matches at St David’s before so it really isn’t nothing new for us,” Powell said. “St David’s actually invited us there and we took the invitation to heart.”

Boulevard will host Devonshire Cougars in their season home opener on October 15.

The Pembroke club officially opened their 2017-18 campaign by holding defending champions Cougars to a draw in their opening Dudley Eve Trophy group B match on Labour Day.

Along with Trojans, Boulevard suffered the heaviest loss of players during the off season transfer period, with striker Ian Coke, last season’s Premier Division MVP and joint top scorer, among those severing ties.

Powell admits the loss of a player of Coke’s calibre was a blow.

“It is a blow but with that said we move forward,” he said.

“We have produced top strikers at Boulevard and this actually opens up another opportunity for us to instil something in another youth who wants to rise up.

“We are trying to instil upliftment through each other within the club and not just one player.

“We are trying to uplift our whole community and if we dwell on one player then we have actually lost the battle because we have a whole community of players.”
