Wells not ready to face former club

Road to recovery: Burnley striker Nahki Wells

Nahki Wells will be watching from the stands when Burnley host his former side Huddersfield Town in the Premier League at Turf Moor tomorrow.

Wells is still recovering from ankle surgery and is yet to make his debut for Burnley after his £5 million move from Huddersfield on transfer deadline day last month.

The Bermuda striker had minor surgery to remove a screw in his ankle prior to his move.

However, he in still not fit enough to feature for Burnley. Yesterday Sean Dyche, the Burnley manager, revealed that Wells, 27, is making good progress but was still not ready for his Premier League debut.

“He’s going well,” Dyche said. “We know the injury, we’re being careful in the early stages, but he’s on the grass and going well the last ten days or so.”

Burnley will also be without forward Jonathan Walters, who is recovering from a knee injury.

They could opt for Chris Wood, the former Leeds United striker, to lead the attack.

The New Zealand player has scored three goals in his first five Burnley appearances.

Meanwhile, Huddersfield have injury problems of their own. David Wagner, the Huddersfield head coach, revealed they will be without Steve Mounie and Danny Williams, with Mounie expected to return next weekend. Williams, who fractured his foot, could face a longer spell on the sidelines.

Laurent Depoitre and Rajiv Van La Parra are also late fitness doubts, while Colin Quaner is still recovering from a calf injury.
