In a comeback of Oumar Niasse proportions, yours truly was finally in the mix with the majority of last week’s predictions.

Admittedly, forecasting a Manchester City win over Crystal Palace is a bit like Tony Pulis’s tracksuit: basic.

Still, you have to be there to score them, so to speak, although try telling that to Roberto Firmino after his midweek Champions League display.

The Brazilian gets a the chance to right that wrong in the Rafa Benítez derby at Newcastle United, but the headline act of the weekend is undoubtedly City away at champions Chelsea.

Both sides are playing well but City, in Kevin de Bruyne, have arguably the classiest player in the league. Naturally, I don’t have him in my Fantasy team.

Huddersfield Town v Tottenham Hotspur

8.30am

Huddersfield, despite their form falling away slightly, are unbeaten in four, conceding just twice. The trouble is, Harry Kane is quite good and will probably score.

Prediction: 0-2

AFC Bournemouth v

Leicester City

Leicester keep playing exciting football ... and losing. Confidence may be teetering. Bournemouth have fared even worse and are a point behind in nineteenth. Leicester have only won two out of their past 24 away league games so I fancy a boost for Eddie Howe’s boys.

Prediction: 2-1

Manchester United v Crystal Palace

If Palace win this, I’ll fly to Croydon and personally forgive Roy Hodgson for his England’s defeat to Iceland.*

Prediction: 3-0

Stoke City v Southampton

The myth that “it’s never easy at Stoke” was ruthlessly ignored by Chelsea but they should find Southampton a little less threatening. That said, Saints have defended well and only conceded five, although they have managed to score a meagre four.

Prediction: 0-1

West Bromwich Albion v Watford

Watford are the early-season success story, thrashing by City apart, and sit in sixth place. Plus, they have a manager who can compete with Pep Guardiola in the suave stakes. WBA do not.

Prediction: 1-1

West Ham United v Swansea City

Swansea appear to be a tougher team to beat away than home but, despite a soulless athletics ground and an equally ill-fitting tactics book, I fancy Chicharito to pick the Welsh side’s defence and hand Slaven Bilic a welcome win.

Prediction: 2-1

Chelsea v Manchester City

1.30pm

A mouth-watering encounter at Stamford Bridge with the only thing affecting City’s optimism being Benjamin Mendy’s ruptured ACL. For Chelsea, Eden Hazard is smoothly clicking through the gears after injury. Firmly on the fence with this one.

Arsenal v Brighton & Hove Albion

Noon

Wins over Newcastle and WBA represent an encouraging start for the Seagulls but a trip to the Emirates is a reach too far.

Alexandre Lacazette is a penalty-area predator unlikely to spare the newly-promoted club.

Everton v Burnley

10.15am

Ronald Koeman is still struggling to piece together his jigsaw of new players but last week’s victory should give them a pick-me-up. Wayne Rooney’s spark has dimmed but the Toffees will have the edge.

Prediction: 1-0

Newcastle United v

Liverpool

12.30pm

Once the Rafael Benítez love-in is done, one suspects Jürgen Klopp yelling at his players the past few days to be more clinical will pay off and break home resistance. The two clubs have produced some classics down the years (Stan Collymore anyone?), but odds are against this being another 4-3 thriller.
