Southampton Rangers got their promotion bid in gear yesterday with a 5-1 victory over St David’s at Southampton Oval.

Captain Ezekiel Stoneham and Khalil Simons, a second-half substitute, led the way with two goals apiece as Rangers turned a 2-0 lead at the half into a comfortable first win of the season.

Stoneham gave Rangers the lead in the sixteenth minute with a well-placed shot from outside the box. Shannon Burchall made it 2-0 on the half-hour when he scored from a rebound.

Substitute Simons, had only been on the field for a matter of seconds when he scored with his first touch to make it 3-0 on the hour mark, scrambling the ball home from close range.

Stoneham made certain of the points with his second and the Rangers fourth in the 64th minute, with a header from a corner. Kashun Durrant, of Rangers, was sent off two minutes for a second booking, before St David’s pulled one goal back from the resulting free kick when Kyle Wade netted.

Simons closed out the scoring in the 81st minute with a first-time left-footed shot.

St George’s made it two wins out of two when they thrashed Ireland Rangers 8-2 with Jarazinho Bassett scoring a hat-trick and Jahron Dickinson and Macai Simmons two each as St George’s led 6-0 at the half. Donavan Thompson scored the other St George’s goal.

At White Hill Field, Roger Lee, the Somerset Eagles coach, got the better of opposing coach and brother Robert Lee as the home side thumped Paget Lions 4-1. Midfielder Cardel Henry opened the scoring for Eagles midway through the first half. Paget striker Dion Stovell came on as a substitute and grabbed an equaliser for the visiting side.

However, Eagles soared back with a goal by striker D’Andre Wainwright, who then grabbed a second before Marcus Iris-Simmons completed the rout late on.

At Police Field, Quinton Jones celebrated his first win as coach of Devonshire Colts who thrashed Wolves 6-3.

Kyle Jones and Tenniko Eve led the charge with a brace each, while Vernel Lambe and Matteo Isaac also got in the scoring act.

“It feels good to get that first win,” an elated coach Jones said.

Wolves replied in the second half through a Vince Minors brace and another from Steven Bremar.
