Allan Douglas Jr can hardly wait to slip into his new Devonshire Cougars kit.

The striker, who is better renowned for his cricketing exploits, has joined the Dudley Eve Trophy and Friendship Trophy holders on a late transfer from First Division side St George’s Colts.

Douglas is now training with Cougars and hopes to make his debut once he becomes eligible to play after November 15.

“The first game is against Somerset Trojans and hopefully I can get into the side,” Douglas said.

“Until then I will be playing a little bit of Corona League with Tuff Dogs to get some match fitness.”

Douglas said he is fitting in nicely with his new team-mates at Devonshire Recreation Club.

“I’m looking forward to a new adventure and coming to a place where I feel comfortable playing,” Douglas said. “The guys have really taken to me and are a good group of guys.

“I was surprised with the amount of youngsters they have and that’s a very good thing for Cougars. I wouldn’t say this is a big jump for me because I don’t really think there’s too much of a difference between First Division and Premier Division football.”

Douglas said his move to Cougars is long overdue.

“I was supposed to have come here for years now,” he added. “Cougars is my family team actually. I have a lot of family and friends who have played for them, and my grandfather [Albert ‘Moose’ Franks] is from around the corner.”

Also joining Cougars on a late transfer from St George’s is Oronde Bascome, whose father Herbie Bascome made a name for himself at the club.

“Those two are very important pieces to the puzzle,” Omar Butterfield, the Cougars coach, said.

“Allan brings his experience, pace and scoring touch. We probably haven’t had a 20-goal striker in a few years and it would be nice to see if he can get in the 20-goal mark for us.

“Oronde is also experienced and is someone who can help bring our youngsters through a bit because of his overall football knowledge.

“I’m looking forward to Allan and Oronde linking up with Moses Steede who is still injured but is expected to be back in the new year.”

Steede missed the entirety of last season because of a foot injury.
