Quinaceo Hunt and Mazhye Burchall will look to catch the eye of scouts during trials at the FBT International Football Academy in Chesterfield.

Goalkeeper Hunt, who plays for PHC Zebras, and midfielder Burchall, for Robin Hood, departed for England yesterday in the hope of securing a professional contract.

Scott Morton, the PHC coach, has urged Hunt to make the most of his opportunity.

“Quinaceo has been doing his part to make himself prepared for this opportunity and I just hope everything goes well for him and he enjoys the experience,” he said.

John Barry Nusum, the Hood coach, believes that Bermuda Under-20 international and former PHC player Burchall possesses the qualities coaches look for in a player.

“Mazhye has good talent and is a humble kid and I wish the best for him and hope he does well,” Nusum said. “He has a good head on his shoulders, works hard and does all the things that coaches are actually looking for and his skill will come out as well.

“When we spoke about it the first thing I told him is don’t come back. If you’re not coming back that means you are doing big things and I hope he does well.

“I gave him my blessing and I think he will do well.”

The academy is privately owned by Thailand-based sportswear manufacturer FBT and has partnerships with professional football clubs in the UK and overseas.

Chikosi Basden, the Chesterfield FC under-21 player and son of former Somerset Trojans striker Dwight Basden, is among several Bermudians to have played for the academy.

Meanwhile, Hunt’s absence has forced Zebras coach Morton to make at least one change to his squad for tonight’s Premier Division match away to Somerset Trojans.

“With Quinaceo gone it now leaves the opportunity for Shaquille to get his first start of the season and enjoy the experience also,” Morton said.

League leaders Zebras, who are unbeaten in all competitions so far, will be looking to get back to winning ways after being held to a draw by champions Hood in their previous outing, while Trojans are still searching for their win of the season.

Nusum has also been forced to tweak his line-up to find cover for the absent Burchall for their home meeting against Flanagan’s Onions on Sunday at Goose Gosling Field.

“It will be tough for us having to fill in for him,” Nusum said. “But that’s a small thing for me and he has a bigger picture in front of him.”

Sunday’s remaining Premier matches pit North Village against X-Roads at Bernard Park, while Dandy Town are at home to Devonshire Cougars. Boulevard take on Young Men’s Social Club at Lord’s.

In First Division action leaders BAA travel to Wellington Oval to face St George’s Colts, Paget Lions host Wolves at Southampton Oval, while St David’s are at home to Hamilton Parish. Somerset Eagles are at home to Devonshire Colts at White Hill Field.
