Social Club deny Boulevard win

Clay Darrell's strike was deflected into the Boulevard net by Antoine Famous

Boulevard 2 Young Men’s Social Club 2

Young Men’s Social Club twice came from behind to earn a valuable point away to an in-form Boulevard side at Lord’s yesterday.

All four goals were scored in the second half and Boulevard will feel they should have netted more, having squandered several opportunities in the first period.

Kick off was 20 minutes behind schedule because of some administrative issues on behalf of Social Club, but the delayed start had no effect on the home team who were the clear aggressors. With the wind in their favour, they were able to breach Social Club’s defence on several occasions.

The main threat was the lively Kamali Davis who found himself behind the Social Club defence on several occasions. However, he struggled to find the correct finish in every instance, shooting either high or wide from a good positions.

Boulevard began the second half much like the first, and were rewarded for their pressure ten minutes in, with a header from Antoine Famous from a Dunnya Taylor corner.

Famous went from hero to villain in a matter of seconds, however, when a deflected Clay Darrell shot came off his shin and into his own net.

The goal seemed to spark Social Club into life, but their joy was short-lived, as the home team again went ahead seven minutes later.

Substitute Ryan Tyrell’s shot from the right took a heavy deflection off Social Club defender Nique Armstong and found its way into the net. Disappointed but not deterred, Social Club continued in search of another equaliser.

Their persistence paid off in the 87th minute when substitute Torico Caines-Dill picked up a ball midway into his opponents half and delivered a curling ball into the box from 40 yards.

The ball found its way inside the far post, beating the goalkeeper who clearly anticipated a touch from the maze of players that it had travelled past.

Social Club coach Kameron Fox thought his team showed character coming from behind twice and feels its something the team can build on.

“After coming into the role of head coach rather late, I’m starting to see a base of players that I can work with,” Fox said.

“The group we have now, are showing real commitment, and if we can pick up a few players in November to add depth, we will only get stronger.”
