Nahki Wells is available for selection for Burnley’s first team after being declared “fully fit”.

The Bermudian striker picked up a minor knock last month in Burnley’s 2-2 training-ground draw with Oldham Athletic.

It was the latest setback after having surgery during the summer to rectify a longstanding ankle problem.

However, he has since recovered from the ordeal and is set to resume his bid to become the first Bermudian to play in the Premier League since Shaun Goater.

“He’s fully fit now and ready for selection,” a Burnley spokesman told The Royal Gazette.

Wells signed for Burnley for £5 million on transfer-deadline day from the club’s Premier rivals Huddersfield Town.

He has made a handful of appearances for the club’s under-23 side, scoring a hat-trick in a 4-0 home win over Colchester United in the Premier League Cup last month, and was an unused substitute for Burnley’s first team against Newcastle United, on October 30, and Swansea City, on November 18.

“I’m champing at the bit,“ Wells told the club’s website recently. “I want that Premier League debut and I want that Premier League goal.”

The 27-year-old’s hat-trick against Colchester were his first goals since joining Burnley and his first hat-trick since achieving the feat for Huddersfield in a League Cup win over Chesterfield in August 2014.

Burnley are seventh in the Premier League, three points ahead of eighth-placed Watford, who they face Turf Moor today.

The Clarets are without winger Robbie Brady, who underwent knee surgery on Wednesday. The Republic of Ireland international ruptured the patellar tendon in his left knee during his team’s 1-0 defeat at Leicester City last weekend and is set to be miss the rest of the season.

Defender Ben Mee is doubtful having required stitches to a gashed knee against the Foxes.

Today’s game is the first of three matches in seven days for the Clarets, who are home to Stoke City on Tuesday before making the trip to Brighton & Hove Albion four days later.
