X-Roads 1 Paget Lions 3

Paget advance to the quarter-finals of the FA Cup with a 3-1 victory over Premier Division side X-Roads Warriors. The Lions showed why they are promotion contenders scoring three goals in 25 minutes to claim victory over the home team, who are in their first season in the top flight

X-Roads controlled the early stages and could have taken the lead on a couple of occasions in the first half. However, goalkeeper Tarik Smith was sharp enough to save Jamin Furbert’s effort from just inside the box after being played through by Khamori Brangman. Smith was equally astute in the 25th minute, getting low to save a fierce drive from Tymon Daniels, who had driven his way into the right side of the box.

Paget created very little in the first half and were probably content to go into the interval scoreless.

The home team continued with the momentum after the break, but Paget seemed to flip the switch on in their attack after the hour mark.

After dribbling his way into the box, Dion Stovell’s shot was parried into the path of Tahjae Welch, who made no mistake with the rebound.

Kashi Davis-Jones had an opportunity to equalize moments later, but his partially blocked shot was cleared off the line.

X-Roads made a double substitution in the 70th minute in their attempt to even up the score, but it was Paget who would strike again twice to seal the game. Demarlo Curtis volleyed home a clever flick from Stovell, on the edge of the box in the 74th minute, and Kenneth Durrant’s shot on the turn went in off the far post ten minutes later.

The Warriors threatened a come back when Daniels was played through by substitute Komeini Talbot, and finished calmly to the keeper’s right.

However, the visitors were allowed to comfortably see out the victory.
