Robin Hood kept alive their slim Premier Division title hopes with a 3-0 victory over North Village at Bernard Park yesterday.

Second-place Hood remain three points behind PHC Zebras who moved a step closer to the title after beating Boulevard 4-0 at Lord’s.

Hood, the defending champions, beat Village thanks to a brace from captain Lejuan Simmons and a strike from Shakir Smith. All three goals came in the second half.

“All we can do is win and try to keep the pressure on PHC,” Nusum, the Hood coach, said. “We played well, had a solid game and got a couple of opportunities to put the ball away.”

PHC captain Cecoy Robinson scored a brace as his side scored all four goals in the first half. The game started five minutes late as both teams showed up to play in similar grey kits. Boulevard had to wear green Fifa bibs to distinguish themselves from the league leaders. The Zebras other scorers were Daren Usher and an own goal by Niko Smith.

“I am not happy with our performance today because it was not consistent,” Scott Morton, the PHC captain, said. “I wanted to finish on a strong note. We need to stay focused and play economical football.”

Somerset Trojans are all but safe after a 6-3 victory away to Devonshire Cougars thanks to three added time goals on Saturday.

The teams were level going into nine minutes of added time because of injuries when Trojans struck three times to grab the win.

Jadan Ratteray-Smith hit a hat-trick for the visiting side, whose other scorers were Justin Corday and substitutes Zarion Darrell and Evan Heyliger.

Moses Steede, who also missed a penalty, and Lovintz Tota accounted for Cougars’ goals.

“We managed to focus for the whole game to get the best result possible,” said Trojans captain Trevin Ming, who conceded the second-half penalty when he fouled Allan Douglas. “I would say it was the best performance we’ve had this season because we were able to score six goals. We hardly ever score a lot of goals, so it was good we got to tick off a bunch of boxes.”

He added: “We weren’t just looking to stay up but to try to make it into the Dudley Eve for next year. This win eases up the pressure and now we can be more relaxed.”

Angelo Simmons hit inspired Dandy Town with a hat-trick as they came from three goals down to beat relegated Young Men’s Social Club 7-3 at Police Field yesterday.

Two goals from Saki Tuzo and strike from Clay Darrell gave Social Club a three-goal lead. But Town fought back with Damon Ming, Oneko Lowe and substitutes Darico Walker and DaShae Butterfield accounting for the visiting side’s other goals.

“We knew if we could get one then we could push on and get another,” said Town captain Simmons.

“I just want to congratulate my team for the effort and fight to come back from 3-0 down.”

Flanagan’s Onions delayed the inevitable by beating X-Roads 3-1 thanks to a hat-trick from Treshun Smith. Onions are six points from safety with two games to go. Trojans, the team above them, have a superior goal difference.
