Lambe’s play-off hopes suffer a blow

Reggie Lambe played in Carlisle's draw against Crawley

Reggie Lambe helped Carlisle United to a 2-2 draw at home to Crawley Town in the Sky Bet League Two at the weekend.

Karlan Aherne-Grant’s second-half double earned Crawley a point after back from 2-0 down.

Richie Bennett and Hallam Hope scored either side of the interval to put the home side 2-0 up, but Carlisle’s play-off hopes were dealt a blow as Crawley staged a battling comeback.

Hope cut in from the left and saw his initial effort blocked by goalkeeper Mark Connolly before he almost opened the scoring with a venomous shot from the rebound, but goalkeeper Glenn Morris did well to get down and deny the forward.

Carlisle broke the deadlock when Bennett’s impressive finish from the left of the penalty area gave Morris no chance after he was picked out by a pinpoint Jamie Devitt cross-field pass.

The home side doubled their lead inside a minute of the restart after Hope forced a close-range header over the line from Ashley Nadesan’s flick after a scramble in the six-yard area.

Crawley got back in the game after 56 minutes when Ahearne-Grant beat two defenders before drilling home a low shot.

Ahearne-Grant was on target again to equalise with eight minutes remaining when his effort from inside the penalty area slipped through Jack Bonham’s grasp.

Dante Leverock scored his second winner in four days to send Narva Trans to the top of the Estonian Premium Liiga on Friday.

The Bermuda defender struck the only goal of his team’s 1-0 victory over Paide Linnameeskond to continue their unbeaten start to the season, after heading home the winner in Narva’s 2-1 triumph away to Tallinna Kalev on Tuesday.

The win puts Narva on ten points, with three wins and a draw from their opening four games of the season.

Jair Parfitt-Williams came on as a substitute in Rudar Velenje’s 2-1 win at home to Celje in the Slovenian top flight at the weekend.

Milan Tucic and Jaka Bijol scored the goals for the home side, while Dario Vizinger was on target for Celje.

Rudar has Leon Crncic sent off in the 77th minute.
