Jahni Simmons netted in the final minute to give Bermuda a 1-0 win over Barbados for their second straight victory in the Concacaf Girls’ Under-15 Championship at the IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida yesterday.

The game looked headed for a draw when Emily Cabral went on a run down the left flank from inside the Bermuda half in the 70th minute. She reached the left side of the penalty box crossing to Simmons, 12, just inside the box. Simmons controlled the ball before smashing a left-footed shot past the Barbados goalkeeper.

The win puts Bermuda at the top of group D with six points from two wins.

They will meet second-placed Curaçao tomorrow to determine the group winners and the team to advance to the semi-finals in Division Two.

Bermuda need just a draw to win their group. Curaçao trail Bermuda by two points after drawing with Barbados 0-0 in their opening match before edging Antigua and Barbuda 3-2 yesterday.

A total of 28 teams, including two invited European teams — Portugal and Northern Ireland — are competing in the tournament, three groups of four in Division 1 and four groups of four in Division 2. The finals are scheduled for Sunday and Monday.
