Coaches complete introductory course
The Bermuda Football Coaches Association has announced that an additional 23 coaches successfully completed the Introduction to Coaching course last weekend.
The course, which was delivered by Uefa B license coach educators from the BFCA, helps to qualify the coaches for the Bermuda Football Association D Licence required to coach youth teams from under-7 to Under-9 age levels.
The BFA coach licensing policy will come into effect today, and mandates that all coaches must be licensed at required levels for specific age groups.
The Intro to Coaching is a new course offering from the BFCA and includes 15 hours of classroom theory and practical field sessions delivered over two weekends.
The coaches were provided with information focused on the characteristics and development needs of the grass-roots player, including: The Role of the Coach, How Players Learn, Planning the Session and What to Coach, The Use of Small Sided Games, and Developing Parental Relationships.
The practical field sessions helped the coaching refine their skills of delivering objective focused sessions, the layout and organisation of the session, and the key points for delivery of an effective session with young players.
During the course the candidates were given the opportunity to experience involvement in sessions conducted by their peers, before working with young players to deliver their sample sessions.
Demonstrations and examples of model sessions were also provided by the coach educators.
The course was led by BFCA coach educators Andrew Bascome, Maurice Lowe, Richard Todd and Dennis Brown. To date 78 coaches have completed the course between June and August.
