Trott concedes late on for England

England Under-20 goalkeeper Nathan Trott

Nathan Trott earned his sixth cap for England Under-20s during their 1-1 draw in the Euro Elite League away to the Czech Republic yesterday.

The Bermudian goalkeeper was just minutes away from what would have been a fifth clean sheet at this level before the home side grabbed a late controversial equaliser.

Trott among seven changes Paul Simpson, the England Under-20 coach, made to his team from the one that edged Italy 2-1 at AFC Fylde’s Mill Farm last week.

The visiting side took the lead in the 39th minute through a goal from Eddie Nketiah. The Arsenal striker scored from close range after Jan Siska, the Czech goalkeeper, fumbled a cross at his feet after having an earlier effort ruled out.

The home side came into the game more after the break, forcing a number of corners and free kicks in the final third and grabbed a controversial equaliser in the 86th minute after Dominik Janosek’s corner was diverted onto the bar and scrambled over the line by Lukas Pfeifer.

The visiting side were adamant that the ball had not crossed the line but the officials awarded the goal. It was only the fourth goal that Trott has conceded for England Under-20s.

He did not concede a goal in his first four appearances at this level before the streak came to a halt in a 3-1 loss away to Holland in an international friendly last month.

Trott was a member of the England squad that won the European Under-19 Championship in Georgia last year.
