Rangers ease past St David’s

Three strikes in the first half earned Southampton Rangers victory over St Davids at Lord’s on Saturday.

Rangers got on the scoreboard in the third minute after a hard, low cross by Jarazhino Bassett glanced off the foot of a St David’s defender and into the net.

Rangers continued their pressure and were rewarded with their second goal in the 26th minute after Cardel Henry fed a deft pass to Bassett who managed to sneak his way past behind the defence and slot past goalkeeper Corey Richardson.

St David’s scored in the 38th minute after DeShun Hendrickson’s corner was met by a powerful header from Kontai Burton, which eluded Rangers goalkeeper Ajai Daniels.

Rangers provided themselves with some breathing room in the 44th minute after Henry feed a quick pass to Donte Brangman from a corner before finding Darius Cox, who rifled into the net.

Rangers scored their fourth in the 62nd minute after Henry unleashed an effort at goal, which caught Richardson flat-footed.

Rangers took their foot off the pedal, allowing St David’s to score a second in the 85th minute.

Jomar Wilkinson, the Rangers coach, said: “Our goal is to get to the final and win,” he said.

“We understand that there’s not a big difference between the Premier and the First Division teams. We believe in ourselves and our team chemistry is good. We’re going to give everything we can to accomplish our objectives.”
