Schools football takes centre stage today for the Bermuda School Sports Federation All Star matches at the National Sports Centre where bragging rights will be on the line in six different matches starting at 11am.

The day kicks off with the primary schools girls match, where the West were comfortable winners last year after claiming a 4-1 victory over the East.

The East will be looking to turn the tables this year and will be led by Knockout Cup MVP, Amira El Karfa, and team-mates from the Harrington Sound team which dominated this season in winning the six-a-side tournament and Knockout Cup. Eva Tuzo from St. George’s Preparatory will also be a player to look out for.

The West will be spearheaded in attack by Avani Patton from Saltus Grammar School, Karis Brooks from Warwick Academy and Calae Young from Gilbert Institute.

The West are looking to retake the primary schoolboy’s title after the East won last year’s match in penalty shoot-out after the contest ended in a low scoring 1-1 draw. This match usually proves to be a high scoring affair and there is no reason not to expect the same again.

The East will be led up front by Kennahz Fray from Harrington Sound with Tiago Correia from Mount Saint Agnes expected to pull the strings in the midfield. St George’s Prep’s Demiyaz Trott will tasked with shutting out the fierce West attack. His defence will be marshalled by Matthew Troake from Somersfield Academy.

The West features three of the schools from the recent KO Cup semi-finals as well as Saltus Grammar who won the six-a-side tournament. Syhon Goater from Paget Primary will be leading the West attack with Saltus’s Feidhlim Carr, Gilbert’s Blayz Borgesson and Purvis’s Harlem Bean-Fox leading the midfield.

The middle school girls will play under a different format. All players trained together and were then split into two equal teams to ensure a well balanced match. This format will give us a unique situation where classmates will take on each other for All Star glory.

Even more unique is the fact will we see twin sisters battling against one another. Jahni Simmons will lead the Blue team in attack while twin sister Jahde will be aiming to keep her sister at bay while she defends for the Red team.

Jahni will be featured on the Blue team along Warwick Academy duo Ashley DaSilva and Asia-Leigh Hollis along with Kenshae Richardson from Whitney. Joining Jahde in the Red defence is Saltus’ Ramiah Brangman while Samantha Davies will play in goal for the Red team. Katherine Bean from TN Tatem will be an influential force in the midfield.

The Middle School boys match always seems to be a close encounter and last year was no different after the West edged past the East 3-2 in a back and forth game. The 2018 season was tightly contested with three different schools claiming honours.

Saltus Grammar won the six-a-side tournament with Sandys Secondary Middle School winning the league and Dellwood Middle School defeating the league champions in the knockout cup. The east will be ready to defend their title with Nicholas Kempe from Somersfield Academy looking to keep a clean sheet in goal.

The Dellwood trio of Athaio Burgess, Aquiyei Richardson and Amir Dill will look to create the chances for the East front runners, with Whitney’s Jekai Eve leading the defensive presence. The West midfield pulls in players from different schools who will need to get familiar with one another.

Sandys’ Mason Robinson and Nyrico Swan will join Warwick’s Harry Twite and Saltus’ Dante Hayward in a flowing midfield looking to match the East. The powerful Temai Hewey from TN Tatem will lead the West attack.

The senior school girl’s match will feature many of the under-17 and under-15 players who enjoyed much success last year overseas. Players on both teams will be quite familiar with each other.

Last year a penalty shoot-out was needed to determine a winner. The West boasts attacking players with Berkeley’s Jya Ratteray Smith, Jazae Smith and Jadae Steede-Hill leading from the midfield. Prolific scorers Ryley Simmons from Berkeley and Warwick’s Ellie Richmond will surely receive plenty of service from the Berkeley midfield trio.

The East, on the other hand, features a solid defensive force which will be led by the Saltus trio of Danni Watson, Koa Goodchild and Zemira Webb who led Saltus to six-a-side and knock out cup glory this year. Hardworking Emily Cabral from Saltus and Chatmore Academy’s Chechulae Dowling will be battling to thwart the West attack from midfield.

The senior boys game will feature many local Premier and First Division players. The West have dominated this fixture in recent years thanks to the recent domination on the league by Berkeley Institute. This year promises to be no different as Berkeley won every tournament and league match with ease in 2018.

The West will feature Dandy Town goalkeeper Jaiden Manders along with team-mate Nizigh Spence. PHC pair Jaheim Iris and Jenico Sealy will play a pivotal part in midfield, while the defence will be led by Devonshire Cougars’s Damion Simmons and Somerset’s Seon Tatem.

Other players featured will be Micah Mendes of St George’s, BAA’s Antonio Carvalho and Somerset’s Jeze Butterfield. The East also features players from Bermuda’s top divisions. The attack will be led by North Village striker Zaniko Hendrickson. Other players on the team are Wolves’ Gatwoine Minors, Robin Hood’s Tariq Bean, Daniel Ball of Devonshire Colts, Jordan Burgess of Hamilton Parish and Vasco’s Ryan Lopes.
