Leverock a doubt for Sligo’s derby encounter

Danté Leverock, the Sligo Rovers defender, remains doubtful for today’s SE Airtricity League Premier Division derby against fellow basement dwellers Finn Harps at The Showgrounds.

The Bermuda captain suffered a leg injury and was replaced early in the second-half during Sligo’s goalless draw away to Cork City on Monday.

Leverock has trained since then but will undergo a pre-game fitness test ahead of the home league clash along with team-mate Romeo Parkes who also picked up a knock game during Sligo’s previous outing.

“I have a slight leg injury, but should be fit for tomorrow’s [today’s] game if not Monday’s game for sure,” Leverock said.

Sligo won the previous league meeting between the two sides 2-1 and will be looking to complete the league sweep and more importantly steer further clear of the relegation zone.

Leverock and his team-mates are eighth in the standings, two points above the drop zone, tied with seventh placed Cork City who they trail on goal difference. Finn Harps are rooted on the bottom having only taken two points from their 13 matches thus far.

“We’d love to get three points and get up that table,” Liam Buckley, the Sligo manager, said. “It’s a derby game, it’ll be extremely hard-fought and we’ll be giving it our all to get the win.

“The game [first league meeting] in Ballybofey could have gone a different way. We’re under no illusions, especially after the defeat in the League Cup.

“Each game you play in this league you have to be up for it because if you are not you will come unstuck.”

Leverock, who joined Sligo from Estonian outfit Narva Trans last December, opened his account after netting the winner in his team’s 2-1 home victory over champions Dundalk two weeks ago.
