Jomar Wilkinson is back at the helm of Southampton Rangers.

The former Dandy Town midfielder stepped down as Rangers coach at the end of last season after guiding them to the First Division title.

However, he has since had a change of heart and has already started pre-season preparations at Southampton Oval.

“Jomar will be our coach for this season,” Algernon Jackson, the Southampton Rangers sports chairman, confirmed.

“We felt like he is in the best position for us to do good things so we thought we would make it happen.

“It was just a conversation, just talking about what we wanted to do, and we came to an agreement and we’re here.

“Everybody is happy with the coach who brought us up staying at the helm, which I think is a good thing.

“It doesn’t mess up the chemistry getting a new coach and all that kind of thing.

“He understands the game very well and has a good rapport with the players who I think they like him and respect him.

“They understand he has been at this for a long time and been successful at other clubs, so I think they tend to listen to him.”

Wilkinson dropped a bombshell when he relinquished his post having achieved success in only his second season in charge.

“It happens and it’s happened to bigger clubs around the world so it’s not like we are immune from difficulties,” Jackson added.

Wilkinson also guided Rangers to the 2017-18 FA Cup final, which they loss 1-0 against Robin Hood at the National Stadium.

Jackson said his club’s pre season preparations are well under way with Wilkinson putting his players through their paces.

“There is no time like the present and you want to be ready and be in the best position for when the season comes, so we have started training,” he said.

Rangers were relegated from the Premier Division in 2016 and narrowly missed out on promotion despite going unbeaten throughout the entire 2017-18 First Division campaign.
