Nathan Trott marked his return from a groin injury with a superb display for AFC Wimbledon development squad in a 2-2 draw away to Bournemouth on Wednesday.

The West Ham United goalkeeper, who has joined the Sky Bet League One side on a season-long loan this summer, made a string of saves played at Canford Park Arena in his first taste of competitive football after picking up the groin injury just before the start of the season.

The 20-year-old, who briefly returned to his parent club for treatment this month, was called into action early and forced to stay alert as Bournemouth sought the breakthrough.

Wimbledon took the lead just after the half-hour mark through a goal from Jack Rudoni who received the ball inside the area and finished well.

Adam Roscrow then doubled the visiting side’s lead five minutes into the second half shortly after Trott pulled off a great save.

Bournemouth eventually grabbed a lifeline against the run of play and then levelled.

The home side pressed on for the winner but Trott was equal to the task to cap an impressive display, which suggests that he could be available for first-team selection in the near future.

Trott initially signed a 2½-year deal with West Ham in January 2016 which has since been extended twice until 2022.

The son of former St George’s and Devonshire Colts goalkeeper Dwayne Trott made 12 appearances during a injury-hampered season for West Ham last term, ten in Premier League 2 and twice in the Checkatrade Trophy, as well being named in the East London club’s senior squad on three occasions.

Trott has also featured for England at youth level. He was a member of the England Under-19 squad who won the 2017 European Championship in Georgia and has also been capped six times for England Under-20.
