Dennis Brown, president of the Bermuda Football Coaches Association, has hit out at the Bermuda Football Association in the wake of three national academy coaches resigning.

Vashun Blanchette, Sergio Goater and Don Vickers have decided to leave the BFA at the same time as a number of changes have been introduced at academy level by technical director Maurice Lowe.

Brown has expressed his concerns over the developments and revealed he has yet to receive a response from the BFA to a letter he sent last month.

“This is very concerning to me as the president of the Bermuda Football Coaches Association and some things need to be addressed,” said Brown, who also resides on the BFA’s Player Development Committee on behalf of the BFCA.

“I actually wrote the BFA a letter on August 27 voicing my concerns as the president and I haven’t had a response yet, so to me that’s concerning as well. To have no response and as the president of the coaches association not even to acknowledge you have received the e-mail is an issue that needs to be addressed.

“At the end of the day communication needs to be better at this stage of where we are and they know how I feel about the quality of coaching at the national academy as the president of the coaches association.”

The BFA confirmed the trio have parted ways with the academy and thanked them for their services.

“We can confirm the departure of Fifa Talent Academy Bermuda coaches Vashun Blanchette, Sergio Goater, and Don Vickers,” the association said in a statement.

“We are grateful for their dedicated service to the national programme, particularly their commitment to developing Bermuda’s future players and their contributions to the team’s successes on the international stage.

“Through their work, Bermuda has performed strongly in the Caribbean Football Union U14 Challenge Series and the Concacaf U15 Championships. Their work with players in these age groups has helped build a strong foundation for future success and contributed meaningfully to the continued development of young Bermudian footballers.

“We thank Vashun, Sergio, and Don for their commitment, professionalism, and service to the national programme, and we wish them every success in the next phase of their football careers.”

Blanchette and Goater have declined to comment on the reasons for leaving their role, while Vickers has said that recent changes did not impact his decision.

“That was not my experience and I was happy with my time spent at the BFA,” he said.

“I’m grateful for the time I spent at the BFA and the opportunities they have given me have been fantastic.”

Blanchette has served as the head coach of Bermuda’s under-15 team, Goater as assistant coach of the under-17 team and Vickers as head coach of the under-14 girls team.

Former Somerset Cricket Club president Blanchette’s resignation arrives fresh on the heels of coaching the under-14 team at last month’s Caribbean Football Union Challenge Series in the Dominican Republic.

Blanchette’s side went undefeated through the group stage and advanced to the Tier I semi-finals as the best runner-up from the three groups. Their excellent run ended on after losing 1-0 defeat to Jamaica, who came into the tournament as champions.

He also led the under-14s to the final of Tier 2 in Trinidad & Tobago two years ago when they lost to Barbados on penalties.
