Important role: Bermuda’s Eva Frazzoni is a key player for College of Saint Rose

Eva Frazzoni and her College of Saint Rose team-mates clinched a record-tying eighth Northeast-10 Conference Championship title and a spot at the upcoming NCAA Tournament.The top-seed team came from behind to edge seventh seed Southern Connecticut State 3-2 in the conference final at the Plumeri Sports Complex in Albany, New York on Sunday.Saint Rose were forced to chase the game after Kaitlyn D’Amico put the visiting side ahead in the ninth minute.The game turned sharply when Nina Predanic converted a 55th-minute penalty to level the scores and then Olivia Boucher struck five minutes later to put the home side out front for the first time.However, the visiting side equalised from a Paula Nunez free kick in the 75th minute to set up an intriguing finish.The match hung in the balance until Sanna Rein headed in from a corner in the final minute of regulation time to finally settle a close and hard-fought battle.Elsewhere in New York on Sunday, Brookhaven College, who are coached by former Devonshire Colts player Robert Williams, were crowned as NJCAA DIII Women’s Soccer champions for the second time in three seasons.Williams’s team, who were the top seeds, beat No 2 seed Delta 2-0 after second-half goals from Kelsey Vickrey and Victoria Sifuentes at Tompkins Cortland Community College in Dryden.Brookhaven went unbeaten all season with a remarkable 17-0-1 record.While Frazzoni and Williams basked in glory the same could not be said for compatriots Zenawi Bowen, MacQuille Walker and Detre Bell.Bowen and Walker’s Thomas College were eliminated from the NCAA Tournament after suffering a 6-1 first-round defeat against top seed Amherst at Keene State College on Saturday.Sebastian Derby netted a brace while Dane Lind, German Giammattei Declan Sung and Will Dunne were also on target for Amherst who led 3-0 at the half. Avian Girard scored a consolation goal for Thomas College in the 69th minute.Goalkeeper Bell produced a string of saves but it was not enough to prevent his California State University Bakersfield side from losing 1-0 against top seed Seattle University in the Western Athletic Conference Tournament semi-final in Denver, Colorado on Friday.
