Devonshire Cougars 1 Somerset Trojans 0Substitute Allan Douglas’s 72nd-minute strike was enough to give Devonshire Cougars victory over Somerset Trojans in the Friendship Trophy quarter-final match at Devonshire Recreation Club yesterday. This was the second time this season that Douglas had turned out to be the “super sub” against the Trojans, having scored the clinching goal from off the bench in Cougars’ 2-1 league win away at Somerset Cricket Club in November. It seemed as though the game might end goalless and have to be decided by penalties. Early in the second half, Jahzardae Samuels escaped his marker and raced in on goal, but his shot saved by goalkeeper Dequan Crockwell.Elisha Darrell had a good chance to continue his recent scoring spree after pouncing on a high ball that goalkeeper Crockwell had failed to collect. Midway through the half, the Cougars’ bench decided to make some changes bringing on Drewonde Bascome and Douglas. Within ten minutes of stepping onto the pitch, Douglas broke the deadlock. Somerset had been guilty of failing to clear their lines once or twice earlier in the game, but had managed to get away with it. Douglas, however, was not in such a generous mood, as he pounced on some hesitant play from the Trojans defence and put his side ahead. Substitute Jonathan Bean headed home a dangerous cross from his fellow sub Jeze Butterfield, however, Bean’s celebrations were cut short as the assistant referee flagged for offside. With only ten minutes remaining, the game burst into life. Bean had another header that the Cougars’ goalkeeper Ajai Daniels just managed to push wide.
