Village open up five-point gap

Village scorer Jaizel Smith-Deshields

Dandy Town 1 North Village 2North Village opened up a five-point gap at the top of the Premier Division after a coming-from-behind victory against Dandy Town at Goose Gosling Field tonight. The win could prove decisive for Village as, had they lost, fourth-place Town would have moved within three points of the leaders with a game in hand.As it stands, second-place Robin Hood are five points adrift of Kenny Thompson’s side while PHC Zebras, in third, and Town are nine points behind the leaders.Mohamed Aden, the Town forward, twice went close to scoring during an evenly fought first half, hitting the crossbar with one effort and striking the post with another attempt moments before the home side took the lead. That goal came just before half-time when an inviting cross from the left found an unmarked Clay Darrell, who had the simple task of heading beyond Tahj Bell, the Village goalkeeper, from close range.Village started the second period with real purpose and levelled in the 56th minute when Jaizel Smith-DeShields was released behind the Town defence and neatly slipped the ball past Treadwell Gibbons, the Town goalkeeper. They took the lead three minutes later through a well-taken goal from Justin Bell to leave Town looking shell-shocked.Village could have opened up a two-goal cushion in the 72nd minute when they were awarded a penalty after a rash challenge by a Town defender. However, Keishen Bean was denied from the penalty spot by Gibbons.SCORERSDandy Town: C Darrell 45North Village: Smith-DeShields 56, J Bell 58TEAMSDandy Town (4-3-3): T Gibbons — J Bean-Lindo, E Blankendal, S Darrell, J Amory — J Johnson, L Emery, J Furbert — M Aden (sub: O Wilson, 59min), C Darrell (sub: K Steede, 81), J Chapman: Substitutes not used: N Smith, A Martin, E Swan, T Lowe.North Village (4-3-3): T Bell — Z Robinson (sub: T Bean, 32), T Fray, Q Lema, A Darrell — J Briers, T Tucker, J Daniels (sub: P Smith, 74) — K Bean, J Bell, J Smith DeShields (sub: R Simons, 75).
