Luciano Swan has been granted a golden opportunity to broaden his football horizons in the English game.The Harefield Academy striker has been invited to train with Crawley Town’s under-23s upon his return from international duty with Bermuda at the Concacaf Under-20 Championship qualifiers in Puerto Rico.He also been invited to participate in the club’s preseason training for the 2020-21 campaign.Crawley Town play in Sky Bet League Two, the fourth tier of English football, and are based in West Sussex, where they play their home matches at Broadfield Stadium.Swan is the first Bermudian to have ties with the club since Jonté Smith, who joined Crawley in 2012 and made four appearances before being loaned to English non-League clubs Havant & Waterlooville, Metropolitan Police, Gosport Borough and Finnish side Kemi Kings.Smith, who is now with Crawley’s League Two rivals Cheltenham Town, was eventually signed by Kemi Kings in 2014.Swan netted both of Bermuda’s goals in a 3-2 defeat by Barbados in their opening group D match in Puerto Rico on Wednesday. He also accounted for the island’s goal in the 2-1 loss to Cayman Islands yesterday.The 18-year-old, who shares the same birthday as Barcelona and Argentina star Lionel Messi, has been in prolific form for Harefield Academy, having notched an impressive 13 goals in seven appearances.Swan has his work cut out for him during the upcoming Spring.He will take part in a UK Football Trials five-day camp from April 6 to 10 at Ardingly College. The camp will be run by 20 coaches from both the Football League and non-League, including a coach and scout from the Premier League.He will then travel to Spain from April 11 to 19, when he will train with a former professional footballer now working with La Liga club Levante and participate in matches against San Marcelino and Massanassa.Swan started his career at Somerset Trojans where he topped the scoring charts for the club’s under-eight team during the 2009-10 campaign.He is also a past Kappa Classic MVP, winning the tournament’s under-seven and under-eight divisions with Somerset in successive years.He completed the six-day Manchester United Soccer School course in the summer of 2011, when he earned special praise from the coaching staff.
