Colts cruise their way to promotion

Devonshire Colts clinched the second promotion spot with a 4-0 win over Young Men’s Social Club at Southampton Oval yesterday. Richard Jones gave Colts a first-half lead in the tenth minute. A second half brace from Jabiri Salaam and a goal from Freeman Lema secured the three points. Colts are seven points ahead of third-place Vasco with two games remaining.“It feels great to accomplish one of our goals for the season,” said coach Eurique Wilkin, deputising for coach Ray Jones, who is on international duty with the Bermuda Under-20 team. “Getting promoted is a stepping stone in our process. Our main goal right now is to win the title. It is in our hands to win it. “We play St George’s next week which will be our biggest league game and we are looking to go undefeated for the rest of the season.”Elsewhere, Flanagan’s Onions thrashed Ireland Rangers 5-0 at Goose Gosling Field. Onions led 2-0 at the half through goals from Jecoa Thomas and Jahvon Morgan.The home side opened the floodgates when play resumed with Christ Kierans, Laquan Thomas and Kiuno Cann adding their names onto the scoresheet to complete the rout.At Bernard Park, Vasco cruised to a comfortable 2-0 win over lowly Hamilton Parish.Ryan Lopes put the home side ahead in the 22nd minute before Jordan Watts added another in the 74th minute to secure the points.At Lord’s, visiting Wolves clawed their way back from a two-goal deficit to earn a share of the spoils in an exciting 3-3 draw with home side St David’s.The home side jumped out to a commanding 3-0 lead on tallies from Stuart Wilson, Jamal Woodley and a Javon Minors own goal. Wolves pulled one back through Jared Peniston a minute before the half to finally get a foothold in the match.The visiting side grabbed another in the 66th minute through substitute Enaharo Sharrieff-Holdipp who pounced again ten minutes later to rescue a point for his team.St George’s Colts, who clinched promotion without having to kick a ball after Vasco beat Onions 3-0 in a make-up match at Bernard Park on February 18, had a bye.
