Luciano Swan says he gained valuable experience representing Bermuda at the Concacaf Under-20 Championship qualifiers in Puerto Rico last week which he now intends to put to good use.The 18-year-old produced a clinical display of finishing as he accounted for all but one of the five goals that Bermuda scored at the tournament.“I took a lot out of the experience in Puerto Rico,” Swan said. “It was a big lesson for the whole team; everyone’s level and expectations were raised.”Kyle Lightbourne, the national coach, who served as Jones’s assistant coach at the tournament, was encouraged by the Harefield Academy pupil’s standout performances. “You always hope you’re going to get players who will stand out and do well and that you can identify for the future; he’s one that definitely did that,” Lightbourne said. “He scored four goals; two from the penalty spot, a free kick and a shot from outside of the box. He’s a player that wants to score goals and has a great attitude towards the game.“You get some players that play but are not really concerned about scoring. He loves to score goals and that’s always a player you want in your team.”Having represented Bermuda at various youth levels, Swan has sights set on progressing to the senior national level.“I represented Bermuda in the Under-13 Naples Cup win in Florida in 2013 and now the under-20s,” Swan said. “Hopefully I don’t have to wait too long for a senior call-up.”Swan has plenty of exciting things to look forward to after returning to England this week, having been invited to train with Crawley Town’s Under-23 side for a second time in two months.“I enjoyed my first time they [Crawley] invited me in December,” he said. “They have now extended the training and have invited me for their preseason training for next season.”Swan is the first Bermudian to have ties with the club since Jonté Smith, who joined Crawley in 2012 and made four appearances before being loaned to English non-League clubs Havant & Waterlooville, Metropolitan Police, Gosport Borough and Finnish side Kemi Kings.As well as training with the Crawley Under-23 side, Swan will take part in a UK Football Trials camp from April 6 to 10 at Ardingly College, West Sussex. It will be run by 20 coaches from the Football League and non-League, including a coach and scout from the Premier League.He will then travel to Spain from April 11 to 19, when he will train with a former professional footballer now working with La Liga club Levante and participate in matches against San Marcelino and Massanassa“My trip to Spain should be a real eye-opener, training with an former professional,” Swan added. “I am also very much looking forward to seeing how I match-up against the two teams, CF San Marcelino and Massanassa.”The former Somerset Trojans youth player has been in prolific form for Harefield Academy, having scored 13 goals in seven appearances.“Last year I did well, too, helping Harefield Academy [in Uxbridge] reach the 2019 Schools Regional County-Cup finals, only to lose 5-4.”
