As we countdown to the 35th America’s Cup The Royal Gazette will bring you one fun fact a day about the boats, the sailors, the crew, or the history of this illustrious competition. There are now 28 days until the month-long sporting spectacle gets under way.

The Louis Vuitton America’s Cup Qualifiers mark the start of the fight to see who will get to challenge Oracle Team USA in the America’s Cup Match.

The qualifiers will take the form of a double round robin, with each of the six teams having ten races. Each win will count for one point, with Land Rover BAR, who won the Louis Vuitton America’s Cup World Series starting on two points, and Oracle Team USA, who were second in the world series, on one.

The first round of qualifiers takes place on Friday, May 26, with the first race between Oracle Team USA and Groupama Team France scheduled to start at 5pm on the Great Sound.

This will be followed by Artemis Racing v SoftBank Team Japan, with Team France then taking on Emirates Team New Zealand, and the final race of the evening scheduled to be Land Rover BAR against Artemis Racing.

The top four challengers from the qualifiers will pair off in the semi-finals and final, in both the team to reach five points will win. The semi-finals are scheduled for June 7 and 8, and the final from June 10 to 12.
