Hayward competes in Montreal

Learning experience: Hayward is competing in his second international competition

Omar Hayward has started competing in the BISFed World Open Boccia competition in Montreal.

Hayward is looking to gain world ranking points and will be up against more than 90 athletes from 15 countries.

It is Hayward’s second international competition, having competed at the World Open in Cali, Colombia, in October last year along with team-mates Steve Wilson, Yushae DeSilva-Andrade and Jamie Brangman.

Hayward, who finished seventh in that competition, has been training six days a week at WindReach Bermuda in Warwick in preparation for the World Open.

He was initially introduced to the sport through the Wind- Reach Adaptive Sports Programme, which provides sporting opportunities for individuals with disabilities.
