Sabir to head new sports body

Elected president: David Sabir

David Sabir has been elected as the first president of the newly established Association of National Sport Governing Bodies (ANSGB).

Twenty eight national sports governing bodies assembled at CedarBridge Academy last week to establish the ANSGB, which was formed after work submitted by the National Sports Committee.

The ANSGB aims to be “one unified voice” and advocate on behalf of all NSGB’s on matters relating to Government, sponsorship and community, as well as provide advice and strategic direction centred on the National Sports Policy to the Ministry and the Department

It will also offer support to all local sport partners and improve public awareness of sporting activities.

Sabir, the general secretary of the Bermuda Football Association, was voted in as president while Peter Dunne, the president of the Bermuda Bicycle Association, was elected as vice-president.

The Treasurer is James Davis while Pam Roye is the secretary. The executive members are Mia Black, the Bermuda National Athletics Association vice-president, Sean Field-Lament, the Bermuda Rugby Football Union president, and Ben Smith, the Bermuda swimming coach.
